Dune and Dune: Part Two Are Back in IMAX for One Week Before the Third Movie

  • by

The third and final chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s saga hits theaters in December, but before that you’ll get the chance to catch up in the best possible way: Dune and Dune: Part Two are returning to IMAX theaters for one week starting November 13. And that’s not all, every screening comes with an exclusive sneak peek of Dune: Part Three!

The Re-Release Trailer

Warner Bros. and Legendary announced it with this video:

When Are Dune 1 and 2 Back in IMAX?

Here’s how it works:

  • Friday, November 13: a one-night-only double feature, both movies back to back.
  • November 14 to 18: separate screenings of each movie.

These are the US dates, and tickets have been on sale since October 30. Other countries have their own schedule. In the UK, for example, Cineworld is showing them from December 4 to 15. Wherever you are, it’s worth checking your local IMAX theater’s website or app, since each chain sets its own dates.

Get Ready, the Double Feature Is Long

If you’re going for both, plan ahead: according to IMAX, the double feature runs 5 hours and 32 minutes. Dune: Part Two alone is almost 3 hours (2 hours and 57 minutes). A friendly tip: maybe skip the giant soda at the start of the first movie.

The good news is it’s worth it. Both films were shot with IMAX cameras, so in those theaters the image fills more of the screen than in a regular cinema. The desert and sandworm scenes hit completely different on that screen.

The Exclusive Dune: Part Three Sneak Peek

This is the part I’m most excited about. Whether you go to the double feature or a single screening, you’ll see an exclusive Dune: Part Three sneak peek that isn’t online. It’s a similar move to what they did before Dune: Part Two came out, when they brought back the first movie with a preview of the sequel.

When Does Dune: Part Three Come Out?

Dune: Part Three hits theaters on December 18, 2026, though some countries may get it a day earlier. It adapts Dune Messiah, Frank Herbert’s second book, and brings back Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson and Javier Bardem. Anya Taylor-Joy joins as Alia and Robert Pattinson as Scytale.

And here’s the catch: Avengers: Doomsday opens the same day. People are already calling it “Dunesday,” Barbenheimer style. December at the movies is going to be wild.

Will There Be More Movies After Part Three?

I wonder about this a lot. Frank Herbert wrote six Dune novels, so there’s plenty of story left. For now, though, no movie has been announced beyond Part Three, which is being presented as the end of the trilogy. Either way, for now we’ll have to settle for these films, and they’re honestly really good.

If you ask me which one is my favorite, it’s the second one, no question. The battles, Hans Zimmer’s score and that ending put it above the first one, at least for me.
