Fortnite Treasure Drop Rates: Epic Reveals Pirate Shop and Gold Outfit Odds

  • by

Since the season started, one question has come up again and again in the community: how hard is it to get the new treasure? Now there’s an official answer. Epic Games published the Fortnite treasure drop rates for every item that can come out of a chest, and the numbers confirm what many suspected: Pirate Shop Access is extremely rare.

Here’s the announcement from the official Fortnite Status account on X:

How Fortnite Treasure Works

Treasure comes from chests, just like any other item. According to Epic, the drop rates have stayed the same since the season launched and don’t change throughout the day, except during Treasure Hours, which I cover below.

There’s also an important rule: you can’t get the same treasure twice. The only exception is Gizmos, which can repeat.

Official Fortnite Treasure Drop Rates per Chest

Every time you open a chest in a normal match, these are your odds. I added the percentage and a reference for how many chests you’d need to open for a 50% chance at each one:

Treasure Odds Percentage Chests for 50%
Weekly Gold Outfit 1 in 1,562,500 0.00006% ~1,083,000
Pirate Shop Access 1 in 137,500 0.0007% ~95,300
Weekly Vehicle & Decal 1 in 7,813 0.013% ~5,400
Weekly Pickaxe or Back Bling 1 in 568 0.18% ~390
Weekly Jam Track 1 in 391 0.26% ~270
Weekly Loading Screen 1 in 272 0.37% ~190
Gizmo (any) 1 in 127 0.79% ~90

The chest column is my own calculation based on the official numbers, just for reference. Every chest is independent, so you could get lucky on the first one or come up empty after thousands.

What Is the Pirate Shop and Why Does Everyone Want It?

Pirate Shop Access is the treasure everyone’s been talking about this season, and for good reason. Whoever gets it can claim V-Bucks items from the Item Shop for free for 14 days, and everything they get stays in their locker for good. It doesn’t include Battle Passes or bundles bought with real money, though.

That’s why the odds are so low. At 1 in 137,500, you’d need to open around 95,000 chests just for a 50% chance at it. If you open about 10 chests per match, that’s more than 9,000 matches.

Treasure Hours: When Fortnite Treasure Drop Rates Go Up

During Treasure Hours, some Fortnite treasure drop rates get a boost. In the first one, held earlier today, these were the multipliers:

  • Pirate Shop Access: 1.5x (1 in 91,667)
  • Weekly Gold Outfit: 7.5x (1 in 208,333)
  • Weekly Vehicle & Decal: 10x (1 in 781)

Epic also said future Treasure Hours could have even higher multipliers. In fact, during tonight’s session, from 9 to 11 p.m. ET, Pirate Shop Access will go up to 2x (1 in 68,750) and the Gold Outfit to 10x (1 in 156,250).

Here’s when tonight’s Treasure Hour takes place in your region:

  • US Pacific (PST): Saturday, November 7, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • US Eastern (EST): Saturday, November 7, 9:00 to 11:00 p.m.
  • UK (GMT): Sunday, November 8, 2:00 to 4:00 a.m.
  • Central Europe (CET): Sunday, November 8, 3:00 to 5:00 a.m.

Is It Worth Playing Just for Treasure?

Realistically, Pirate Shop Access and the Gold Outfit are close to a lottery. The smart move is to play normally, open every chest you can and make the most of Treasure Hours, when the odds are on your side. The more common treasures, like Loading Screens, Jam Tracks or Pickaxes, are reachable if you play a few matches a week.

The good news is that Epic published the numbers. Showing drop rates transparently is something the community had been asking for, and now every player can decide how much time they want to put in.
