The last chapter ended with one of those entrances that leaves you wanting more: Boruto showing up out of nowhere to save Sarada and leaving Code with a pretty nasty souvenir on his face. Luckily, the wait isn’t too long. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 39 drops on November 19 on MANGA Plus. Here’s the release time for your region, what I think could happen and a Chapter 38 recap in case you need a refresher.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 38 Recap

Heads up, Chapter 38 spoilers ahead.

Chapter 38, “Follow Your Heart,” came out on October 20 and jumps between three storylines.

Kawaki visits Naruto and Hinata. The chapter opens in the dimension where Kawaki has Naruto and Hinata sealed with his Daikokuten. He apologizes for keeping them locked up for so long, but he doesn’t change his mind: he’s still set on wiping out every Otsutsuki that could threaten Naruto, and that includes Boruto. Seeing Kawaki so sure he’s doing the right thing is honestly a little scary.

Konoha’s political crisis. Kashin Koji tells Shikamaru what he saw with his Prescience: Kobu wants to make Konohamaru Hokage in name only, to win over the people while he pulls the strings. On top of that, the other nations are reportedly considering cutting support for their ninja villages. And the worst part: Nishi hands Kobu proof that Shikamaru helped Boruto escape. It’s a notebook Shikamaru borrowed from him, with the corner of a page torn out.

Sarada, caught between Code and Hidari. At the Divine Trees’ hideout, Sarada is stuck between two enemies. Code wants to use her as bait to lure Boruto, while Hidari acts on his own judgment, which ties into the chapter’s title.

Boruto arrives. Boruto tries to lock onto Sarada’s chakra, but Koji warns him that saving her could bring him closer to the future where Momoshiki takes over his body. In the end, Koji tells him to follow his heart, and Boruto does. He teleports to Sarada, slices Code’s mouth and caps it off with a line about how Code now looks even more like the clown he is. A lot of fans took it as a Joker nod.

What Will Happen in Chapter 39? My Predictions

This is pure speculation based on how Chapter 38 ended.

1. Boruto vs. Code, finally

It’s the most obvious one, but also the most anticipated. Code has been itching to fight Boruto for a while, and now he’s right in front of him. What I’m not sure about is whether we’ll get a full fight or whether Boruto will focus on getting Sarada out. I’m betting on the second option, because Boruto isn’t dumb and knows fighting on enemy turf is risky.

2. What will Hidari do?

Hidari is the most unpredictable character right now. The chapter made it clear he doesn’t think exactly like Code, so he might end up helping Sarada escape without meaning to, or at least stay out of it. I think his role in this chapter could be key.

3. Momoshiki’s shadow

Koji’s warning was crystal clear. If the fight gets tough and Boruto pushes himself too hard, we could see the first sign of Momoshiki trying to take control. Hopefully not, but Kishimoto and Ikemoto usually follow through on threats like this.

4. Shikamaru on the ropes

With the notebook proof in Kobu’s hands, Shikamaru is very likely to be questioned or removed from office. The path for Konohamaru to become a puppet Eighth Hokage is already set.

5. Does Kawaki find out?

If Boruto uses a lot of power or openly fights Code, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kawaki senses him. And given how determined he is to take Boruto down, that would just add fuel to the fire.
